Okay, first it's just a title. The only person you can manage is yourself; however, by managing yourself you can affect change. Simple steps to do so are as follows:
1. Adapt to the organizational culture. When in Rome don't act like a Greek.
2. Ensure you are following policies and procedures. Yes, if you don't like to be told what to do; then do what you are suppose to do.
3. Do more than what is expected. This is SO important to managing your boss and improving your worth. It is the best way to get out of the hot-seat and remove the all-seeing-eyes from off you.
4. Don't listen, surround yourself, or become involved in negativity or office gossip. Keep yourself in a positive light.
